the sudden crack of axe and blade,

two years of thirst,
one month of fire;
forests burned to dust,
birds and beasts to scattered bones.
We grieve —
ten years of hacking axes,
a hundred years of tainted fire;
a thousand trees undone,

Only sorrow for beasts driven wild,
their rage a poison on the land;
cut off from the world,
